| What is an evaluation? How long does it take? An evaluation is a comprehensive look at your child's fine and gross motor proficiency, ability to use sensory input adaptively, visual - motor skills, pre-writing or writing skills and other functional needs. The emphasis at SPOTS is to look at your child's strengths. A child relies on his or her strengths to compensate for and change problems areas. A child should not be rushed during an evaluation. We try to ensure that the evaluation process is experienced as fun, exciting and at the very least not scary for the child. The process can take from 1 1/2 hours to 2 1/2 hours. The process includes a discussion with the parent(s) immediately after the testing. The child plays with an assistant while the examiner and parent(s) talk in a nearby room. Evaluations are typically scheduled on Thursday and Friday mornings, but can be arranged at other times. SPOTS offers the SIPT (Sensory Integration Praxis Test). This test is given over a two day period and yields a comprehensive profile of sensory processing abilities. Back to Questions |
