Cathy Canary, M.D.
Our Staff
Dr. Canary, a native of Detroit, Michigan, attended the
University of Michigan and completed an intensive
6-year integrated premedical-medical program. She
earned a B.S. in biomedical sciences in 1978 and an
M.D. in 1981.

She went on to complete a pediatric residency in
Milwaukee, WI and a child development fellowship at
UCLA. She moved to the NYC area in 1988, where she
has worked in a variety of settings, including several
different medical centers as well as at New Alternatives
for Children, a foster care agency that specializes in the
placement of children with chronic medical and/or
developmental problems.

She currently maintains a part-time position at the Mt.
Sinai Medical Center evaluating children and teaching
physicians-in-training in the child development division.

She has lectured extensively about developmental
issues to physicians-in-training, students and
professionals in related disciplines such as physical
and occupational therapy and social work, as well as to
parent groups.

Besides helping families of children with developmental
concerns, Dr. Canary also enjoys helping coordinate
the children's program at her church. Her other joys in
life include caring for her family, recreational running,
and baking.
